This picture is a small example of the giant amount of Peperos I received, as I gave many to others who in turn have been so kind to me since my arrival. Such a simple gesture meant so much to me and others. It was just like Christmas, only different, as my friend Pete would say.
My plans for Seoul changed, and I did not make the trip, but still had a wonderful time. I am so grateful for the weekends and each day I spend here. It has been beautiful, sunny weather and everyone is happy! I am getting used to the colder weather and continue to walk as much as I can.
In Geksa (downtown) and along the river, the Aspens are in full color, but leaves are falling as well. I love kicking leaves and remembering my time in Illinois during the Fall. I had forgotten about the apple farms with their presses and jugs of cider. It has all come back to me here and I am happier than ever. I saw a movie over the weekend, and have started spending more and more time at Java City, relaxing and reading. Saturday, I was wishing I had my laptop, as I have a window on Jeonju from my cushy chair. People have finally started to wear coats and scarves. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only chilly person in this town.
It's so hard to believe that I have been here almost five months! I feel like I should be learning Korean, but I haven't felt motivated enough yet. I have a great book and CD, but I am waiting for lightening to strike, I guess. If I don't learn the language, I know I will regret it. I should look at it as a way to challenge myself rather than "school". Believe me, there are plenty of people here that would love to do a "language exchange" as in practicing on each other.
So, just a little update about my Peperos and life here. Best to you this week!
