They took me to a place, up towards the mountain, that was in a beautiful location. The leaves had started to turn the weekend prior to our trip. I actually saw bittersweet and happily found my favorite dish in Korea!! The photo to the right shows rice cooked in bamboo. I was ecstatic with the flavor of this dish. As you can see, the bamboo is held together with a natural fiber sting. The sting is pushed down on the plate and the bamboo falls apart of allow the hot rice to be eaten! The rice has a sweet flavor and has chestnuts in it as well. We each got four servings of this treat! What could I do? I couldn't help but finish mine.
The second photo was taken across the street from the restaurant and is rice drying in the sun. As you have seen in other pictures that I have taken, the processing of food is almost as much fun to see as the eating of it.
I want to give a shout-out to Gil, who is not only in England, but in Cambridge. He is at a private school and "home staying" with an English family. Gil completed his mandatory Korean military service and came to my school for a little brush up before leaving for England. A rabid soccer fan, I know that Gil is in his element and thought of each day. Derek is studying English in the Philippines studying English with his elementary school daughter until January. We know he will be coming back to us soon!
My weekend was pretty low-key. Ended up going to the movies and bracing for the ONLY 36 degree weather today. I am glad that the cold weather came gradually, as I only looked like half an Eskimo when I ventured out today.
Know those of you in the US are starting to prepare for Thanksgiving. My thoughts are with you all for your holiday! Best to you!
