Sunday with Annie

Spent a great day with Annie, the woman I met in Seoul, during Chusak, who coincidentally lived in Jeonju. Annie has been in Korea on and off for over the last 10 years, and owns a car. We had talked about a road trip for a number of weeks, so finally both our schedules allowed for a visit to the countryside today.

While sunny earlier in the day, we had overcast skies as we headed out of town. There are several areas in this part of Korea that are popular for Fall "leaf viewing", so we stayed away from those areas due to traffic issues. BUT, we still saw some beautiful places, as you can see from the photos following this blog entry. These pictures are of various buildings on the Uibong (pronounced WEEbong) Temple grounds. These two "gentlemen" in the middle picture signify two of the four directions. I surmise East and West, for no really good reason. They were huge and beautifully painted as you can see. They face their counterparts (North and South), which are not shown.

I was glad to see this last week pass. I have been sick with a bad cold and laryngitis, a deadly problem for any teacher. Saw the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor, who before returning to Korea, had lived in Oregon for a number of years. It is so great to converse with a doctor about problems without benefit of an interpreter. I received some "super drugs" that had worked very quickly. Still have the sniffles but have "crossed over" to begin feeling better!

Spent yesterday meeting a friend for coffee and attending to "girlie stuff". It has been beautiful Fall weather up until today with lots of clouds and tonight, rain!

See above photos for the other pictures I took today! Thanks to everyone for keeping in touch. Keep those cards and letters coming!
