My "Other" Neighborhood

I know that pictures are far more interesting when they include people, but in this case, as I was out exploring the other side of my hill, on this SUNNY day(!), I encountered these three new friends!

I think that the first two must be sisters, though wildly different hair styles, and each racing from the butcher shop to the beauty parlor next door again and again. Notice the purple tipped ears and tail on girl #2. The third dog, in the mini soccer jersey, came running out from the yarn shop filled with ladies learning to crochet. What can I say? I am in love with both sides of my hill!

Earlier, I took the bus downtown, checking out new bookstores and just walking. Later, headed for Lotte Department Store to check out the movies before getting my hair colored. NO movies this weekend that are new to me. But got my hair done then back downtown to check out Megabox Cinema for more movies. Again
nothing playing that I hadn't already seen, but did run across another cinema to add to my collection. It seems that every weekend, I am finding more and more new places.

You could really tell that it was the first sunny, breezy day in a long time! Everyone is smiling and happy to be outside! Lots of super-hot peppers drying in the sun as well as fruit and vegetable vendors outside. Saturday seems to be the ladies gathering day as well. I passed several stores full of ladies playing cards with this small little card squares that are red and white. They throw them and after that, I have NO idea. I would love to learn and join them. If nothing else, I might be headed back to that yarn shop to check out the crochet lessons.

Sunday
I have walked again first thing this morning. Most of the shops are closed, but some bakeries and restaurants are open for business. It is really true that Koreans are very hard working people. Most shops stay open very late and open very early.

I got my first book from the used books I ordered from Amazon. It feels so good to get something in the mail! Right now I am alternating between the Lonely Planet book on Seoul and "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. I love this book, as I am a big "Armageddon" lover and this one deals with the end of the earth as we know it and its survivors. Very short book, but wonderful read.

Thanks to all of you who have lit candles for the rainy weather to stop and my sanity to be restored! Keep those cards and letters coming!!
