Wanted to give a shout out to a BIG Diamondbacks (and other AZ teams)fan, my former colleague, Mirza, seen in this picture accepting a gift from our past employer. Mirza and I left about the same time this summer. He predicted the Diamondback's sweep. He's psycho, er, psychic!
What can I say? Both teams swept the competition (including my beloved Cubs)but it still feels good to have both these teams advance. I am learning more and more about my great fortune in Korean TV, as I was able to watch both games here today!
I am racking my brain to remember what this time of year is called in the US re: sports...is it the Fall Classic? Whatever it is...it has contributed to a tiny feeling of homesickness.
I got out to see The Nanny Diaries, which was somewhat disappointing. I expected more laughs and less "heavy". Think I am am facing another movie wasteland for a few weeks....atleast until October 18 when Becoming Jane shows up. Also expecting to see a great film re: Beethoven. And after doing a little research on some films that are older, by several years, which are showing up here, I have learned that they are only just now being released in Korea. Mystery solved.
Have heard from my colleague, Keith Goldhair, teaching in China. Sounds as though he is having a tough time of it with contracts, pay, and immigration documents. All I could think was there by the grace of God, go I. It is so tricky here when any of us come to teach. We can just hope for the best. I think my experience has fallen someplace in the middle regarding my school, documents and housing. I am wanting Keith to hang in there or to get to Japan (you can enter without a Visa)and then come here on a travel Visa, for a while to find a job. This path is common, I am hearing. Stay tuned.
And so, after days of great sunshine, we have a little overcast weather with a few showers. I made my way to a different part of town today to check out another department store and to try to find the legendary FIVE STORY One-thousand Won store. Eureka!! I found it and of course had walked past it multiple times in the past. It did live up to its reputation, but I was only in a looking mood today.
Know you lucky people in the US are having Monday off for Columbus Day! Enjoy and keep those cards and letters coming!
