SKYPE - Heaven On Earth

A few weeks ago, I saw a brief article on www.gadling.com about the fact that www.skype.com had come out with several new programs. (Sorry, the Blogger hyper-link seems to out of commission.)

I already had Skype for instant messaging and the ability to talk to anybody on Skype with a headset for no cost. Some of my friends were already on, but I got others to start. It was great to hear so many voices, via my computer. BUT, when I checked out the new Skype info, it changed my life.

For a mere $13 a month, I can call 34 countries, from my computer to friends or company landlines. Do I know someone in 34 countries? Nope, but the cost is so small, it let's me call people who have no interest in anything to do with a computer or who don't want to be bothered with IMing or calling on Skype. (Yes, I do know and love some of those people.) This new program also let's me contact anyone that I still might need to do financial or commercial business with as well. See how's it changed my life? No more phone cards, no more not being able to call 800 numbers and no more misunderstood business emails! It's a beautiful thing.

And, the icing on the cake is that for my $13, I can choose 3 numbers, any place, so that people can call me for the cost of a call to that area code. In other words, I now have a "602" (Arizona) and an Atlanta (for Dawn) area code number so that anyone can call me for free in that area code. If someone wants to call me, from say, Texas, it would be the cost of their call to the 602 area. And, it all goes through my computer and their land line.

Did I say it's a beautiful thing?
