Just In Case.....

The buzz about the Olympics is increasing here. It is hoped that tourism will increase due to people spending big bucks to come this far, so why not visit Korea while in the neighborhood. Recent numbers show that even Koreans don't vacation at home. Korea needs tourism, and the new president seems to taking this issue seriously, despite the criticism of his "Grand Canal" project. (More on that interesting concept down the road.)

The papers are full of stories re: China and Tibet, boycotting of the opening Olympic ceremonies, views of Reporters without Borders, and much more. You've probably read that many countries are having their athletes train in nearby countries and then fly into Beijing, just prior to their events. Why? Air pollution, worries about unsafe food, etc, etc. Seems Korea might have missed the boat on the training facility gig. If you are aware of any non-Korean athletes training here, email me, will you?

If you're headed to this neck of the woods (or even if you're not), here is the latest from the State Department regarding any and everything you need to know to get to China and what to do once you're there. This is a great source with tons of links including some dramatic warnings.
