I have been digressing from Jeonju City ,in the last few days, due to financial issues, and here's another "digression."
I mentioned a few weeks ago that the US Embassy was affording US citizens the opportunity to speak with someone from the IRS who would be in Seoul for phone and in-person interviews. So, this morning, I spoke with a lovely IRS lady, "Jewel", from Kentucky, who has been in Manila and will be headed for Tokyo, Hong Kong, etc, etc. (Nice job if you can get it. )
I had once heard that expats had a way of qualifying for all foreign income to be excluded. AND, there is, up to a certain amount, that I will never see in my lifetime. Jewel filled me in on all the forms, time frames and I am on solid ground! I was so surprised that this great service was being made available. The IRS website is good, but very hard to navigate, living overseas, without a little help.
If I can help, email me (see the right side of the blog) and put "IRS" in the subject line. I am by no means an expert, but I can give some help with the info she gave me.
Thanks to Wikipedia for this picture of the IRS building in Washington, DC.
