"Star Dust" Day

Can't get enough of those movies! Finally after two weekends of a "movie desert", a great weekend movie. Three students from one of my adult classes invited me to lunch and the movies today.

The first picture is looking out the second story Pizza Hut, down at an area that I have mentioned before...Keksa, or the downtown area of Jeonju. Notice that there was also a Outback next door. This is the first Western restaurant I have visited in Jeonju. (I take that back...visited McDonalds one of the first mornings I was in town.) Anyway, it was fun! Pizza was good and company was even better!

The other pictures are of Jane and Mr. Bean at the restaurant, and Jessica at the free popcorn bin at Megabox. We had originally planned to see "Zodiac", but upon learning that "Star Dust" started, minds were quickly changed!
My friend, Janet, in Phoenix, loved "Star Dust", and I had read a quick review on the New York Times website, so, that was the movie to see for this weekend! I feel so lucky when a film comes out in the US and then immediately appears here as well. Not sure how long this movie will stay, but we saw it! To my off-beat movie going friends...a head's up that a Korean/American movie, D-War, which has been out here for a while, is coming to the US on September 15. I read a review that said that Korean film maker is not sure what Americans will think of the film, but that if nothing else, it could become a "cult" movie. My mind jumped immediately to the 1960 Godzilla and Mothra movies. I am seeing D-War tomorrow, so will let you know!

Have heard that both friends Carla and Betsy have arrived at their destinations in Africa. Check out their blogs via the links on to the right.

Previously referred to "Second Hand Man" has gotten me a $20 scales (new) and is working on a toaster. $20 might not sound like such a deal, but believe me in Korea, that is an amazing price!! The cheapest toaster I could find was over $40. The price of electronics is astounding! These items are produced here, but price is out of this world!

Want to make the public statement that I have sworn off ice cream! I was so proud that I had lost so much weight, but quickly found a substitute for those Grande Carmel Frappicinos (check that spelling) in the US. We aren't talking about Ben and Jerry's here, but those cheap waffle cone/ice cream treats wrapped in foiled paper! Cheap BUT dangerous. So, it's official.....back to green tea and green "bran" flakes.

Have been worried today about friends, Nise and Doug Knight. They are vacationing in Jamaica, right in the path of Hurricane Dean. I am hoping that they have already left, or will be cozily cuddled up in their hotel until early next the week.

Hope you all are having a great weekend! Keeps those cards and letters coming!
