These pictures are of several places I passed on my way to the market. The lower right photo is a small look at a very long mat, covered with drying peppers. I was so surprised to see them and started wishing that I had a camera with a high powered lens to capture the true color and size of the peppers. You could never get me to eat one of these, but they are a staple of Korean cuisine.
Each trip to the market is an experience! Today, I bought some things I have eaten, but have no idea what they are called. It seems to be my way of life here. If it isn't hot or spicy, like most Korean food, I can eat it! The best way I can put it is that I won't starve here, but it is an on-going challenge!
Have I said that I am thrilled it's the weekend? I am making plans to visit Seoul beginning next Wednesday, as I think I have said several times that all of our branches are closing for 3 workdays. I am most excited about taking the train into the city. Everyone thinks I am crazy, but I have been so looking forward to taking ANY train since I got here, I don't care that it takes an extra hour. Now, I just have to live through getting a ticket and getting back from Seoul by Saturday morning. Everything in between should be a piece of cake! One of my adult students volunteered to drive to Seoul to give me a grand tour, but my preference to to get around by myself at least for the first few times.
I am still reading "Harry" and will only take a break today to go to the school at 7 PM for my tutoring student. Tomorrow, heading to another movie, this time by myself, to see "Evan Almighty". This movie came out the day I left Phoenix, so movies are late in my town, but they get here! I am not sure how I will navigate at the movie but I am motivated! All my students have seen "Harry" and "Transformers" which is really big! I am counting on finding a Korean movie with English subtitles in Seoul, unlike here in Jeonju.
Hope you all are enjoying your weekend! All the kids think teachers are sad on the weekend! NEVER!! Keep those cards and letters coming!
